Ann Loveless is an award-winning art quilter and was the maker of the first textile piece to win first place at ArtPrize in 2013, a US art competition with a prize of $200,000 so she is exceptionally well qualified to teach us a thing or two about textile landscapes. This is primarily a book about her work; it has a comprehensive gallery section, but it includes some insight into Ann's method of working and very good advice about planning and executing your own piece of landscape art in fabric. There is a great step by step guide to recreating one of Ann's pieces, she bonds freehand cut strips of patchwork fabric to fusible web to build backgrounds and then adds foreground detail with further textures and a form of confetti quilting. There's a lot of free motion embroidery involved in this technique, but it is fairly unstructured, so even if you're a little unconfident in that area, you're still likely to achieve a great result. -Katy Purvis / Popular Patchwork, December 2015
