The 2011 Caldecott Medal Winner is now available as a board book, perfect for the youngest of readers!
The winner of the 2011 Caldecott Medal is now a board book.
Amos McGee, a friendly zookeeper, always made time to visit his good friends at the zoo. He'd play chess with the elephant and run races with the Tortoise (who never ever lost). He'd sit quietly with the shy penguin, lend a handkerchief to the rhinoceros with a runny nose, and read stories at sunset to the owl, who was afraid of the dark.
But one day Amos comes down with a cold and can't make it to the zoo to see his friends. But don't worry, his friends know just what to do and soon they're at Amos' house comforting their sick pal.
This gentle, big-hearted tale makes a perfect little board book for story time, bedtime, and anytime in between.
But one morning, "Ah-choo!" he woke up with the sniffles, the sneezes, and the chills. One thing was sure, he would not be making it to work that day.
Meanwhile, at the zoo the animals patiently waited for their friend. When he didn't show up they suspected something was wrong and took a bus to visit him, as any good friends would do.
Here is a wonderfully old fashioned story of some very loyal friends, with spectacular drawings by a highly talented artist, Erin Stead, making her picture book debut.
